About Ellen

Ellen ter Gast (1971) studied Medical Biology (MSc) and Philosophy (MA) in Amsterdam. In-between her academic training as a ‘biophilosopher’ and the writing of this thesis at the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Science (Radboud University in Nijmegen), Ellen worked as researcher in the field of organization studies and as a management consultant. She presented lectures on the ethics of animal experimentation, bio-ethics, philosophy of science and communication. She was Chair of the Animal Experimentation Committees (DEC) of the Dutch Cancer Institute and of Sanguin. Recently, she was appointed as Senior Researcher at the Rathenau Institute in the Hague. Although, after reading this book, one might think otherwise, outside academia Ellen prefers cats over mice.
